Phenomenon 3
The theme of Phenomenon 3 was art in times of political urgency. There are six ‘bulletins’ relating to this theme on the Phenomenon website http://www.phenomenon.fr/.
During Phenomenon 3, a film about Anafi in the 1960s and 1970s was shown on 2 July to a large audience of islanders, visitors to the island, and participants in the ‘biennale’. This had been transposed to DVD from a VHS original made in 1987, with the help of Dayve Fresco of what was then Media Resources at Swansea University. The video was made to take to Greece to show migrants and islanders about the research I had already done. The video showed many of the photographs taken on the island in 1966-67 and in 1973.

Phenomenon 2
In Phenomenon 2, on the construction and negotiation of histories, the Anafi exile archive was featured. There are seven ‘bulletins’ relating to this on the Phenomenon website http://www.phenomenon.fr/.

The organisers of Phenomenon received the Montblanc Arts Patronage Award 2018 for their involvement in the artistic life of Greece.
Also in 2018 works from the first two biennales were exhibited in ‘Multitudinous Seas’ at the Fondation Hippocrène in Paris. The film (later shown on the island in July 2019) was shown as part of this exhibition, attended by a number of Anafiots. This had been transposed to DVD with the financial help of ‘Phenomenon’, from a VHS original made in 1987, with the help of Dayve Fresco, of what was then Media Resources at Swansea University. The VHS was originally made in 1987 to take to Greece to show migrants and islanders about the research I had already done. 2015 / 2017 / 2019 'Phenomenon'
An Anafi-based conceptual art programme was put on in the first two weeks of July in each of these years, bringing together a number of artists and scholars.
In Phenomenon 1, ten artists and scholars were involved in projects concerned with contemporary art as a lens that reveals the invisible (the name of the island means ‘Revelation’ in Ancient Greek). On the Phenomenon website, http://www.phenomenon.fr/ there are seven ‘bulletins’ related to Phenomenon 1.

The Benaki Museum Photographic Archive
Over a number of years I have taken to the Benaki Photo-Archive in Athens negatives and photos taken during various research visits to Anafi and Anafiots in Athens. The Director of the Photo- Archive comes from an Anafiot family and made me promise to do so when I first visited the archive to see if there were any photos of the island there. The weight of the negatives and photos taken during the year’s research in 1987-88 was about 19 kilos! These were donated in 2012 and added to earlier donations. An article about the corpus of Anafi photos was published in the Benaki Museum Journal 2008, and a further discussion appears as Chapter 13 in Camera Graeca 2015 (eds. P Carabott & Y Hamilakis).
