Most of the publications reflect the research topics investigated: naming, inheritance and ritual obligations; the effects of different kinds of migration: seasonal and permanent, for men and for women; the role of migrants and islanders in the development of tourism; the relationships between tourists and islanders. Another strand is linked to the research on the commune of political exiles on the island during the dictatorship of Metaxas. Other publications reflect an interest in pilgrimage, in icons and the different ways in which art historians and believers write about them; an interest in incense and the ingredients which differentiate it from perfume; and the search by tourists and travellers for ‘an authentic self’.
