1966 onwards some photos of Anafiot pottery

The island potter, Andreas Kollidas, had his workshop at Vayia where there were good deposits of clay for making pots. Many water jars, wine jars, oil jars and other receptacles in use on the island were made by him. With the advent of plastic containers, however, demand waned. Broken jars were often used as chimneys, and, more recently as containers for plants in a house's courtyard. I initially started taking photos of pottery when asked to do so by Judy Birmingham at the University of Sydney, Australia (she met my uncle, Charles Kenna, who told her about me being on a small Greek island at that very monent). She is a historical archaeologist with a special interest in pottery (see her Wikipedia entry). The photos here date from 1966, 1987-88, and 2009.
